LaShannon Spencer is in the process of completing a book that focuses on healthcare disparities. Included in the publication will be personal healthcare stories, healthcare articles, surveyed data, and previously published works and solutions offered to combat the issues that continue to plague these communities. Disparities gathered for this publication highlight includes: low socio-economic status; lack of access to care due to cost or geographical location; quality of care; lifestyle; gender; race; environment; culture and tradition; community factors; distrust; and genetics.
The audience for the completed project includes policy makers, healthcare practitioners, educators, healthcare trade organizations and associations, libraries, colleges, religious institutions, non-profit organizations, and members of the minority community. This anticipate book will be used to empower all communities. The intention that the selected works creates a sense of awareness and understanding regarding healthcare disparities, and become a springboard to solutions.
A portion of the proceeds from the slate of the book will benefit the not-for-profit Center for Healing Hearts and Spirits. This book explains how healthcare leaders, community health centers, policy makers, and clinicians can help improve clinical outcomes and patient care for vulnerable populations.
